Hey guys,
Just wanted to say - too bad the crowd wasn't bigger, because the music was great.
Everything was solid - good even with a few blips here and there - really a good show.
Just a few things I loved.
Sam -
you were great as usual - the guitar on
Here Comes the Sun, the vocal on
Layla, but my
favorite parts were the harmonica work on
Heart of Gold and
Piggies. Remember to listen
to Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows - you need to sing that.
Larry -
your new song was super. And the harmonies with Audrey on some of the Schmendricks songs -
Old
Habits? I think - were great too. I'd like to hear a full set of LL songs -
Lonely on Stage,
Coffee House Blues (I'm crazy about that one), the one you
wrote for Audrey with the guitar
(
I'm Not Telling You)- let me know when that CD comes out.
Seth -
the drum thing MADE
Heat Wave.
and
Audrey -
by far the evening's most versatile female vocalist - I don't think I've heard you sound better -
from the beginning of the show to the end. You should do more Linda Ronstadt - you have a great
voice for her stuff.
Phil -
too cool for words, as usual - especially in the Schmendricks second set. If you ever start
giving lessons - I want to sign Dan up.
Jeff (Wells), Up on the roof was outstanding - I wasn't sure how
that would fly accapella - but you nailed it -
the Mod Four is Fab
you guys were so on - and looked like you were having fun too! You should definitely do the Mount
Olive Showcase next year - maybe Roberta can find out how to get you in?
And I want to see
the Schmendricks on stage
one if they do another outdoor thing at Turkey Brook
this year - you guys need to get plugged in to that.
I'd like to tell
Steve Kohn again that I
thought his set was great
and to take a look at jonathanedwards.net - you can hear samples of some of his songs - listen to the self titled album
samples - top left - Everybody Knows Her and Shanty - would both be great for you. If you can't
find the full tracks to download - I can get them for you. and if Sam doesn't do Accidentally
in Love - do that too.
Thanks for letting me be a part of Coffeehouse #6 - it was really wonderful.

Curt's Coffee house DVD review (6-12-2005)
Sam,
I had a chance to view the DVD. Great show all around. My faves were
Believer - great harmonies...
Aniticipation - Beth was fantastic...
Sunshine - Steve Kohn's got a great voice,
you should let him live out his dream and put him in the Schmens...
Why Do Fools Fall in Love - best tune; nice job with acapella...
Great MC job by Larry - very funny the whole night; they just came from a funeral.
Loved Heart of Gold, your best tune; nice job with the harp,
shows the diversity and talent of the mental boy. Piggies
was also great; loved the last verse where you effect your voice and then the little ending
(alla Larry) was great. That last tune, Winter was really
good; it was a different venue, a more rocking crowd; that's what the Schmens need to keep the juices flowing.
